Susan Carlson

Photo to Pet Portrait Collage

Jump into this fun and relaxed workshop by creating a pet portrait of your favorite furry friend. Starting with an enlarged photo, Jane will guide you step-by-step through this project-based class.  You will learn how to create a pattern suitable for fabric collage, along with Jane’s signature technique that uses no fusible products or pattern pieces. To help you achieve a successful portrait, the workshop will cover fabric selection, value and contrast, background design, and stitching techniques. Students may choose to work in either a realistic or abstract color palette. Jane will also include small, confidence-building exercises focused on color, along with ideas for other collage applications and create a fun, improvisational background. The collage will be stitched and finished after class. Students have the option to use one of Jane’s patterns if preferred.

Arcadia

Join Giuseppe — familiarly known as Giucy Giuce — for a new foundation paper piecing workshop inspired by the classic pickle dish quilt. Cornichon is not a pattern — it’s an immersive technique‑driven experience built around Giuseppe’s innovative modular foundation paper piecing method. Each block you create will be uniquely your own, providing endless opportunities to explore color, shape, and composition. Take a deep dive into the structure of the design, learn how modular units interact, and discover how small variations can transform the entire quilt. Cornichon is designed for quilters who love experimentation, modern aesthetics, and hands‑on learning. G’s new interpretation of the classic double wedding ring pattern – Particles – will be offered as an alternate project choice. Whether you are new to FPP or already an enthusiast, you’ll leave with a strong understanding of Giuseppe’s process, a collection of one‑of‑a‑kind blocks, and the confidence to continue.

Animal Artistry through Appliqué

David M. Taylor

David Taylor’s quilts are often mistaken as paintings, and that makes him very happy. His works are adapted from photographs, and his technique evolved from his love of jigsaw puzzles. In this workshop, students will learn the secrets to his craft. Topics include his unique pattern drawing method and freezer paper appliqué technique. A strong emphasis is placed on fabric selection (bring as much as you can to the class) and using those fabrics wisely. Students are required to submit image options in advance of the workshop.
